Open Gaming
In response to requests from attendees, Arcanacon is experimenting with a new approach to certain activities at the convention. Open Gaming is a looser approach to playing at the convention. There is no pre-registration, no blurb on the website, just a GM who wants to run something and maybe some players who want to play it. The GM doing the recruiting could even be you.
If you find yourself in an Open Gaming group, the organisers will allocate space in which to do it. For roleplaying games, this will be your own room. Each player will pay the standard fee of $6 per session for the use of that room. (Traditionally, we've seen the odd impromptu boardgame start up in the rego hall. You can still do this, as long as you aren’t in anyone’s way. But for anything we think likely to use space we need for something else, you'll need to use a room and pay the fees.)
We don’t promise you will be able to find yourself a game in the Open Gaming category to play. Only one GM has expressed an intention of running an open game this year (although that doesn't stop anyone else from showing up with something we didn't expect - that’s the point, after all). However, as long as we don’t run into any major issues this year, we expect to encourage more of it in 2013.
