A hope in hell...

In nomine picture

One. Two. Three. Four…

Her nipples are hard and dark and shrunken on breasts like empty pouches. Her hair comes out in clumps when she moves. She tries not to move too much. Her skin is flaking, infected and inflamed. Bedsores cover her back and legs.

…Twenty-eight. Twenty-nine. Thirty…

Her fingernails grew long and brittle; then they broke off. The ragged nails rip her skin when she scratches. Her stomach shrank, then bloated. Then it shrank again. Hunger subsided to a low nagging in the back of her mind. It’s ok. It goes away.

Like the pain goes away. Like everything goes away when the dreams come.

…she feels reality ebbing back.

…Sixty-five. Sixty-six…

She’ll wait. Delay the pleasure. Delay the dreams. Will she dissolve it in her mouth? Breathe it? Rub it into her skin? It doesn’t matter. She’s counting to a hundred.

…Ninety-six. Ninety-seven. Ninety-eight…

A two session In Nomine scenario for four players.

ChaosiumAnd did those feet?
by Rob Shankly

(sponsored by Chaosium Inc.)

In ancient time, Godefroi, Knight of Dunwoode near Bilchester, made pilgrimage unto the Holy Lands. In Jerusalem he dwelt among the sages, one-and-twenty years, and learned their tongue and found much wisdom in their lore. And verily, in the fortieth year of his life, Godefroi did journey into wilderness, in company with Saracens of divers arts, and contended with devils, and was sorely wounded. A year Godefroi did dwell with the Knights of Malta, for grievous were his wounds. Then did he return to England, and the forest of Dunwoode, wherein he dwelt all of his days.

- St. Anambras' Parish records

In the 1920's, four descendants come to claim an ancient inheritance. Single Session.

Darkness Rising

by Justin Akkerman

"If you go down to the woods today you’re in for a big surprise..." and it ain’t no teddy bear’s picnic. At the end of an age with time running out, even entry to adulthood is not a straightforward affair.

A one session game set in a backwoods Wenelia, Glorantha, where Orlanthi are Vorlanthi and no one has heard of the Red Moon Empire. There are plenty of pesky Elder Races lurkin’ about and around these parts, the only good Troll/Elf is a dead one!

The characters are 5 barbarians, each 16 years old. They are leaving the cub scouts to earn their woggle as Bear scouts. Play time is over, get ready for action. The question remaining is: will the Bear give its blood for you or will you give blood for the good of the Bear.

No setting knowledge required, these are barbarians for God’s sake.

Rules knowledge: are you acquainted with stats from 3-18 and can you roll percentile dice? If ‘yes’ to both counts then you pass the rules knowledge requirement.

Mighty Eagle Claw

The wind began to howl through the trees as black stormclouds filled the dark sky, blotting out the last rays of daylight. The armed escort quickened their pace, the sedan bearers shuffling to conserve their last ounces of strength. Passing a birch grove, the winking lights of the town in the valley below came into view. The procession halted in front of a large guest inn as the first rain pattered onto the road. A lady of great beauty and bearing exited the sedan and hurried inside, sheltered by her bodyguard’s bulk and the umbrella he held. The escort scattered to whatever shelter they could find as the storm began in earnest.

Four more travellers are present at that inn as the clouds break. A bowl of rice, a few pork buns and a roof over their heads become the least of their worries that portentous evening!

PUT TITLE HERE

by Leigh Snell & Chris Leahy

It is the end of a long day. If clocks go metric, every hour lasts for over two, so working an eight hour day means that you would have worked for over 19 hours. Since they haven't and you don't, it doesn't matter anyway. One way to drown your sorrows, is to lock yourself away and not upset anyone else. Another way is to share your problems with your friends, and get them equally depressed. You all meet at your usual haunt "The Floating Vagabond", where you partake of a singularity. After recovering, your attention is drawn to the cable television, which is not unusual since you are sitting right in front of it, and the rest of the patrons are asking you to move.

A single session Floating Vagabond for four patrons - a Disgustingly Cute Furry Thing (who never has a job, but always seems to survive), a cartoon character (who is sick of being blown up and hasn't made a movie for a while), a cop (who has not been able to legally kill anyone for two days), and someone who believes in upholding the rights of minority groups (given that she is a gay dwarf black female in a wheelchair fits well..sorry a sexually liberated, vertically challenged, whose skin colour has a strong resistance to sunburn, life producing carbon based life form, and requires additional mobility assistance).

Seriousness: guess! Rules Knowledge:2 Characterisation:4
Adult concepts: I have no idea what you're going to get up to.
Some dice usage (occasionally even rolling them!!)

All alone in the dark

"Then, Luna, shining through the trees, called for their Rite-Gifts to be given them: Gifts came to thecubs, the First Pack, from the Five Directions

From the East came the Way of Stepping Sideways
From the South came the Way of Fiery Rage
From the West came the Way of Changing Shapes
From the North came the Wisdom Ways
And from Within, Gaia gave the cubs part of Her, to carry within them always - the Way of Gaia"

With only their instincts to guide them

Even on her deathbed, Grandma Faith wears her pearls. She beckons you to her with a spindly hand.

"This feud has gone on long enough. It sickens me to see my kinfolk fighting among themselves. If you can't make peace..." A violent fit of coughing interrupts her frail voice. You hear the rain against the window, a heavy, humid New Orleans downpour. "If you can't make peace, then so help me God, I'll leave this house and all it contains to the Church!"

In 1920's New Orleans, four relatives must end an old family feud or lose their inheritance.

The tests were grueling, but you six have prevailed. Alone of all the candidates, you six have proven your worth to become musketeers. Unfortunately, there are only three openings.
