Entering Arcanacon

PreEntry

We encourage you to pre-register for the Convention, for the benefit of all involved; you're more likely to get into the events you want (many are already full by the start of the Convention). Preregistering also means just walking into the convention and being ready to go - no queues at the desk, just confirm your sessions and go. Preregistering for 9 or more sessions also qualifies you for an Arcanacard.

It also gives the writers a good idea of how popular their scenarios will be, and whether they should find more GMs before the Convention. Some writers like to play a couple of games as well, and if they have a better idea of how many players they have, they'll be able to preorganise themselves too.

And there's no denying that pre-registration helps the Convention. Early pre-registration helps us to judge required venue space, arrange for extra GMs or places in tournaments to meet demand and make catering for the canteen more accurate (very important!). It also gives us a starting cash-flow before the convention, when we incur a lot of costs.

Arcanacon Fee Structure

In 2000 and 2001, Arcanacon roadtested a new fee structure to cover the costs of running the convention. The structure was intended to encourage attendees to play more sessions by making each successive session cheaper. It was also hoped that it might help us eliminate problems with players not remembering to pay for their sessions. Over the two Arcanacons that we tested the fee structure we received a considerable amount of feedback on this new structure, which unfortunately, even when positive, came down to "it's a bit too complicated".

So in 2002, we are returning to a much simpler fee structure for the Convention. In short, there is a $5 registration fee, and then each session costs you another $5. So one session is $10, three $20 and so on. The fees for the convention are capped at $50 - the Get Wrecked option of 9 or more sessions. Easy, eh?

Special Entry Deals!

Some events have a special entry cost for the entire event rather than following the standard $5+$5 per session.

Confused? Feel free to contact the organisers at arcanacon@vurt.net or ring either Martin or Damien for help (see Contact Information for details).

How do I enter?

There are a number of ways for you to enter Arcanacon.

Firstly, you can obtain one of the Akenaken XX booklets - from a gamestore, your club or by asking us to mail you one. The booklets have an orange cover this year, and should be visible from afar. Each booklet has an entry form in the middle. Pull the form out, fill it in and mail it to us at

Easy, right?

Or, if you want to put in a paper form, but you already know what you want to play, you can download the entry form as a pdf (35K). Once you've printed it out, fill it in and mail it to us at the above address.

Alternatively, in 2002 you can register for the convention online. You will be able to register, enter the games you want to play and set yourself up in teams with your friends. If you're a GM, you can find out how many people are in your game and when they want to play.
