When do the sessions run?

The Convention begins on Thursday when the doors open at 2pm for Registration and the first session starts at 4pm. From then onwards, tournaments are run in 2.5 hour sessions.

Thursday has two sessions, commencing at 4pm and 8pm. The following three days have sessions at 9am, 1pm, 4pm and 8pm, with the final session Sunday being devoted to the prizegiving.

The convention doors open at 8:30 am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Cashing in on the new summer time, we're giving you an hour for lunch and an hour for tea, and then taking advantage of balmy nighttime to run the convention until 11pm. Arcanacon closes on Sunday evening with the Awards Ceremony, closely followed by the Post Con Do at Cha-Chi's Mexican Restaurant.

How do I choose what to play?

Look at each of the game outlines listed by genre on the games page and choose whatever piques your interest. Some tournaments have ratings (see tournament ratings explained) assigned to them by their authors which may help you to decide.

How do I enter?

Each and every convention attendee must register using the Entry Form provided and pay the required fees before they may attend any convention events.

How much is it?

To enter Arcanacon, you need to pay a $5 registration fee, plus a fee for each roleplaying session that you play. The more sessions you play, the cheaper they get, peaking at $50 for the Get Wrecked entry which allows you to play as many sessions as you can squeeze in. Some special events, such as the WarHammer and Settlers of Catan have a set cost instead, of a by-session cost. See the fee structure, schedule and entry form for the details.

Pre-Entry

If you enter before December 22nd, 2000, the $5 Registration fee will be waived, so get your entry in early! If you pre-enter and play the entire convention, the most that Arcanacon will cost you is $45.

We encourage you to pre-register before the 22nd of December; it's cheaper for you and you're more likely to get into the events you want (many are already full by the start of the Convention). It also gives the writers a good idea of how popular their scenarios will be, and whether they should find more GMs before the Convention. Early pre-registration also helps us to judge required venue space, arrange for extra GMs or places in tournaments to meet demand and make catering for the canteen more accurate (very important!). So entering early benefits everyone at the Convention.

Disabled attendees

If you have any special needs, eg ground floor access only, please contact us before the convention and we will make arrangements for you.

Visitors

Registration as a Visitor costs $2 per day and allows you to take part in public participation events, such as the MegaCredit Fabulousness and the CheapAss demonstrations. Even if you are not playing anything, you must still register to satisfy our Insurance Policy. You must change to a full player registration and pay the appropriate fees if you wish to enter a tournament.

On the day...

If you have pre-registered by sending in your entry form:

  1. Go to the convention,
  2. collect your badge and timetable at the Registration Desk in the Main Hall
  3. confirm your sessions with the scenario writers or event organisers who will be available at their respective tables in the Main Hall.

If you are registering on the day, you will need to

  1. Go to the convention,
  2. fill out an Entry Form and
  3. pay the relevant fees at the Registration Desk,
  4. before then going on to arrange session times with the various event organisers.
  5. Then you must giggle wildy in a fetching manner, take all your clothes off, hang upside down from the rafters, attempt a double flip dismount with a twist of lemon, and slope off to your first session. Okay so I'm getting bored. Chocolate frog to the first person who mails me.

Special packages

There are also a number of special registration packages, including our Get Wrecked option, and special set-price deals for Warhammer, Clan War, Mythos Collectible Card Game and Settlers registrations. See the fee structure for more information.
