Itttt beeeegiinnnnns! Hopefully everyone had a whacky old time at Arcanacon XXVI - from what we could tell from the feedback, mostly people enjoyed the games and the con overall. So... what's happening for Arcanacon 2009? Well, the theme for the convention is "SYDPUNK" - cyberpunk and steampunk and punkpunk, and whatever other sort of punkish sorts of counterculture folks want to bring along. Basically you can call it punk if you want to - but if you're not sure, then a working definition might be a style or movement characterized by the adoption of aggressively unconventional and often bizarre or shocking clothing, hairstyles, makeup, etc., and the defiance of social norms of behavior. So we're looking for some events in 2009 that are full of the rebellious, the jarring, and the wonderfully strange We're starting to accept events now - that gives you about 5 and a half months to get your idea up and ready, as blurbs will be due around the end of September. This gives you plenty of time to think about what you want to write, if you want to write with other folks, and all the other little details that make up a con game. If you have a strange idea - and strange ideas are certainly the motif for the convention this year - then give the Orgs a heads up so you can chat about your requirements, whether its space, or advertising or whatever. Arcanacon is also looking for more ConOrgs and Helpers. If you're curious about getting involved in organising or running Arcanacon, let us know - pop us an email or give us a call or catch up with one of the orgs at one of the other Cons during the year. Earlier is better as conorg meetings for this year have already begun - it takes a lot of preparation to make the 4 days of Arcanacon go off smoothly. Please be aware that next year, the Victorian holiday for Australia Day is on the MONDAY - which means the con will run Friday - Monday like it did in 2008, rather than Thursday - Sunday as it has for the few years before that. |
