The Arcanacon Annual Writer's Challenge

Q&A

theme what and why when and where arcanacard writer challenge convention fees entering the con convention rules contact info helping out

What is it?

This year Arcanacon is looking for people to write for our new Annual Writer's Challenge. Three members of the gaming community will be asked to write and present three separate events for the following year that challenges a genre, takes on an old idea in a new way or basically does something interesting.

The writers names will be inscribed in the Annals of Arcanacon for all time (as soon as we get both Annal and scribe). They will also receive some sort of nifty prize once their event has been run.

How does nomination work?

There will be a box at rego with submission forms. You can nominate any person, be they a writer whose game youve thoroughly enjoyed, an old writer that you think should get back in the game, a friend you think could do an excellent job or even yourself! At the Awards Ceremony, a name is drawn out of that box (called Phillip hereafter), and that person is offered the opportunity to accept or decline as they will. This keeps going till we eventually get to someone who accepts!

An alternate person for each of the three who will 'fulfill the duties should the Nominated Writer be unable to so' is also drawn. Its like being Miss Universe. But we dont ask you meaningless questions.

What do I have to do if I accept?

Present a game. You can write with a friend, but your name will be in lights. You can recruit as many GMs to help run the game as you need - we'll help if you need more than you can muster. Tell us the requirements before the end of the submission date. Show up with scenario/event in hand, enthusiasm in heart, fire in belly at the day of the con!

How does it benefit the player?

A good game is its own reward. Also, there are fabulous prizes*.

The games will be advertised and organised in a similar manner to classic events like the Chaosium Masters and 3 Session D&D, and benefit from all the sponsorship and grandeur we can muster.

I want to play!

That isnt strictly a question.

* Not a guarantee.
