Announcing the fourth annual Arcanacon Second-Hand, Dog-Eared and Pre-Loved Auction.

Convert trash to cash, or find treasure in the ruins!

This year we will hold two auctions at Arcanacon, the first during lunchtime on Sunday 24th and the second during lunchtime on Tuesday 26th.

The auction is open to everyone who is registered at the convention. You are welcome to bring and sell more or less anything, so long as it is game and geek related*.

This is how it works:

Starting on Saturday, we will display all the auction lots near to the rego desk. We recommend you display your wares as early as possible, so you can generate some interest. The auction will start shortly after midday on Sunday and on Tuesday, and will be held in the main rego area.

We will accept items for sale right up to the start of the auction. Please take an auction slip from the rego desk, complete the details, and securely attach it to the item so that people can read the reserve (minimum) price. You can also set a "Buy-it-Now" price that peopple can pay if they want to purchase before the auction - this could be a good idea, as some people may not be able to attend and yet may still want to purchase.

There are two more things you must do:

  • If there is anything wrong with the item, you must state the problem clearly on the slip. This could be a coffee stain on page 82, a missing rulebook, or your remote-control R2D2 might not work at all: whatever the case, be honest! Our skilled auctioneer will do his best to extort maximum returns on your behalf.
  • Please make bundles of related items. If we have to sell many items, one at a time, the auction will take hours. Therefore make sets of items to be sold together in bundles. i.e. Put all your AD&D 2nd Ed books together in Bundle 1, all your old Dr Who books in Bundle 2, and your die-cast robot can be Bundle 3.

Easy enough? If you're not sure, check with us on the day.

After it's all over and everything has been settled, just come to rego to pick up your cash. Any items that are unsold will be returned to the owner. Any money or items left at the end of the con must be picked up by the owners - Arcanacon does not have the facilities to return or store your things, nor can we arrange for a later payment.

*Let's not be silly:

  • No pets or people.
  • No services may be auctioned.
  • No weapons.
  • No food or drink.
  • Original software, videos and DVDs only.
