Arcanacon

What's Showing?

Games and Events

Not only, but also...

Arcanacon is a trembling house of cards!

Well, not exactly, but without

  • the generous support of our Sponsors,
  • the organisational ability of the conorgs,
  • the tireless efforts of writers and GMs,
  • and the efforts all our players,
the Con wouldn't really last very long.

In short, it is dependant on the generosity of the community of gamers that come each year to Arcanacon.

Freeform Roleplaying Games

Freeform events usually involve large groups of people - usually more than 10, and sometimes more than 20 - gathering into one large game. Typically emphasis is on character interaction rather than dice-based gaming, and costumes are often encouraged.

Miniature and Wargaming Events

Not only the insanely popular and extraordinarily loud Arcanacon WarHammer 40K minature tournament, this year we also have two additional WarHammer events, the historical miniature event of Flames of War and the first of the annual WarMachine tourneys.

Multiform Roleplaying Games

Somewhere between the chaos of a freeform and order of a tabletop game lies the realm of the multiform events. Partaking both of some of the game-ness of tabletops and the roleplaying-ness of freeforms, these events may include sitting down and rolling dice as well as moving around the room and acting out your character.

RPGA Living Events

The RPGA network is a global association of roleplayers who get together at conventions, games days and even homes, to share the enjoyment of roleplaying. In Australia and New Zealand the primary focus of RPGA activity is the many d20 campaigns - bring your own character games with setting from D&D v3.5 to gothic horror to space opera.

Special Events

Feel like a break from roleplaying? Join in one of the other special events that run during the Con, from a 2nd hand auction to demos to cooperative storytelling to trivia.

Tabletop Rolepaying Games

'Tabletop' gaming has been the traditional dice&paper type of roleplaying game that many con-goers are familiar with, but as roleplaying has evolved, it has expanded to include a much wider variety of games than might be found in a home-run game.

This year's selection includes systemless games - which might not use a published game system, or might not have any resolution at all; cooperative narration games - where the players have as much input into the game as the GM; the Arcanacon D&D Major; comedy games; the conclusion of Peter Strong's 13 episode manga-inspired series; and still more.
