Frequently Asked Questions

Member Details - Personal, Biographical, Games

  1. Who can see my details?
  2. The only people who can see your personal details, like address and email address are the Convention Organisers, and yourself. In fact, unless you set yourself up as a public member, no one else can see that you are even a member.

You can set yourself public by changing this option in the Details menu. (See below for details).

Once you've registered for a particular convention, and entered games, GMs and writers for those games can see your name.

  3. What is the difference between public and private?
  4. If you are a public member, you appear in the membership directory. Your name and username are shown in the directory, as well as any biographical and game-biographical details you enter - this does NOT include personal details like your address, only the information on the Your Bio page. Only other members can see this information and, depending on your message settings (see below), they may be able to send you messages.

  5. Why would I set myself public?
  6. One of the goals of the AON system is to promote a sense of community amongst attendees to the convention, and being a visible member is one way to be part of that.

If you are an event organiser, its a fact that many players base what they want to play this year on the games that you've run before. However, not everyone is good with names, so being able to list a game biography can help jog people's memory - and get more people into your game.

And for the Con Orgs - it lets you know who we are :-)

  7. I don't mind being public, but I don't want to be hassled.
  8. That's understandable - even as a public member, the defaults are that only writers and conorgs can message you, and that your email address is not available to other members. You can change this in the message settings and biographical details screens respectively.

  9. Why do you want my date of birth?
  10. If you are entering the convention as a player (as opposed to being a member), we need to know if you are under 18 as your guardian needs to sign the entry form. When you enter a particular convention, your age is calculated from the date of birth, so that it is preloaded with your other information.

  11. Do I have to fill in the Bio and Games Bio stuff?
  12. Nope, its entirely optional. We're hoping that you do, obviously, because this will help build a sense of history from Con to Con.

  13. What is my title?
  14. Optional - you can include a real or fictional title if you like that sort of thing.

  15. The Games Bio page is very confusing
  16. Basically it breaks into three parts:

    • Games that you've already put yourself down as having written.
    • Games that other people have put into the system that you were a co-writer for.
    • Space for you to enter in games that you've written.

  17. How do I change my password?
  18. Follow the link in the details menu.

  19. How do I change my username?
  20. Sorry, once you've chosen a username, it can't be changed.
