Community
Arcanacon does not exist in a vacuum. We receive support from sponsors and from clubs and conventions around Melbourne. Without the generous help from these other organisations and individuals, Arcanacon would not run as smoothly nor as well.
We would like to thank the following groups of people.
Sponsors
Generous providers of commercial support to the convention or to particular events, our sponsors may provide prizes or other resources.
Supporters
While perhaps not providing tangible contributions to the convention, our supporters give the convention invaluable advice and assistence both before and during the convention.
Conventions
Throughout the year, Arcanacon receives the support, however informal, of the other roleplaying conventions around Melbourne
Roleplaying Books in Public Libraries?
Ever wondered why there aren't more Role Playing Games in libraries? Aren't RPGs pretty much books?
Staff at the Port Phillip Library Service have added an experimental RPG collection*, housed at their St Kilda branch (see link for travel tips as well as the address) but available from any branch. They will be monitoring the collection to see how popular it is – i.e., how many books get borrowed and reserved. If the collection gets a lot of use, there's a good chance it will be maintained and even expanded. This means you have the chance to do 2 useful things at once: read RPG books you don't have, and encourage both this library service and others to start buying more RPGs.
Membership is free – in fact, you can join online and place reservations (also free) right away! However, to actually borrow you will need to confirm your identity with proof of address (driver's license, bill, bank statement, etc with your current address on it). There is a quota of 4 RPG books on loan at a time, but you can of course also borrow other items while you're there - their fantasy/SF collection is quite good and they lend movies for free.
So- get borrowing!
* If this link doesn't work, go to their catalogue and do an Advanced search for the Game Books collection.
