Feedback on Feedback

Each year we try and get a reasonable sample of the Con to fill out the feedback forms. Mostly they come back at prizegiving, when people finally have a chance to sit down and think about the con rather than running off to sessions or the canteen.

Most of the feedback this year was positive - yay! - but there were some negatives, or things that weren't entirely up to spec. So we thought we'd cover them briefly to try and either explain why things are that way, or to say thanks for pointing it out.

Got any more feedback that you forgot to share with us? Please, let us know - use the information under "Contact" and pass it on. We're not mindreaders, so we need you to tell us. Even minor things can be fixed... but we can't do anything about the weather :)

Three worst things: Weather/Heat/AirCon
Sorry! We really can't do anything about it without changing venue (which we'd really rather not do) or changing date (and we prefer to have the holiday). Some years are going to be worse than others - we're hoping this is the worst its going to get.
We made enquiries roughly a week before the convention and there were plenty of portable a/c units available in Melbourne. Once the 7 day weather forecast was issued, however, these all disappeared- we hired the last two units available that could be delivered to the convention...
Missed last year's vegie-burgers
Specifics like this are good - we'll see what we can do about bringing them back next year. Got any recommendations for good ones?
Please teach the helpers how to rotate stock in the pie warmer.
We sorted that out on Friday - sorry if you got a crunchier-than-normal pie beforehand.
Hotdogs $2.50, but pies $2.00?
When you buy pies in bulk, they get kinda cheap. The hotdog makings don't come preprepared, and start to add up.
(Canteen) Floor dry- wet not safe.
We spotted that one, and got a mop on Saturday, but thanks :)
Variety could be better balanced, eg not much SciFi this year
A volunteer, eh? :) Honestly tho, we can only offer what is offered, and some years certain genres are not well represented. Hope it didn't mess with your con too much.
Only played 2 games- was not a fan of theme.
We try and make sure that not more than 6 or 8 of the games offered are in-theme, so as to leave a fair selection of events that have nothing to do with it for people that aren't fans of the theme. Sometimes the other games aren't also to taste, which is unfortunate.
There were a number of games in the book without writer's details on them
This was due to last minute difficulties with formatting the con booklet. Our policy is to always put writer names on the blurbs, but when it came down to a last minute choice of drop some content vs drop the names, the choice was made to lose the names. We figured that given the books were for at the con, you could look under the sign for the game and see the writer.
Not obvious how to get to online rego from the website menu
Er... up there on the left - 'Registration'.
When you book online you can't check the number of people in the session.
At the moment, the system only allows for a 'very full/full/available' sort of interface to how many people are in the session. Adding more information to the timetabling interface would clutter it badly (as well as slowing things down further). We might be able to provide an alternative interface that shows that sort of info seperately.
Can we record comments about GMs whose games you have previously played?
We'd be a little concerned about it turning into a flame war on the site, so that requires a bit more thought before we say yes or no.
Other events
The idea of a boardgame event, or a cheapass tournament seemed pretty popular - we'll see if we can get some interest in someone to run such a thing.
Scheduling living events conflicts with scheduling regular games
Er, we're not sure what people mean - Living games were run within the normal session times, it shouldn't have caused any problems? If anyone wants to give further info.... ?
