Living Death

When Blood Runs Cold

Spanish moss clings to branches hiding the thin writhing shapes of the bayou. In the water, ancient reptiles slowly cruise for unwary meals. A bird's mournful cry and sudden squawk signals its last instant of life. Small bright points of light flit from branch to branch, tree to tree; so many you may swear the stars have come down from above, sucked down from heaven by the dark and deep green malevolence. Here shuffle dead things in the night. The story started here long ago where the White Magnolias bloom. Like all stories though it progresses and moves, with unholy grace, to Macon.

The bayous are scarce in Macon, Georgia. Moreover, the days are brighter. Less swamp and less inherent danger, or so the countryside would have you believe. Kudzu and bramble and sucking mires replace the wide watered avenues of the bayou, but the dangers are still as prominent. Daylight is bright, but the night still hides death and rot.

In the last few years, The Society of the White Rose has had cause for concern in the South and South-East United States. When Colonel Daniel Grogan died and was buried with full honours, it was a time of mourning. When he was seen walking the streets of Macon one week later, it became a time for fear. There are rumours of gatherings, which cause the dead to rise again. Names are whispered and old enmities rekindled. Others have been sent in the past to halt this spread of evil. Aunt Rose sincerely hopes you will either disprove these rumours, or take the necessary steps to seek out and remove the cause of this blood-chilling evil.
