Are we not drawn onward,
we few,
drawn onward to new era?

Barbara Braun, Amanda Collins & David Munro

The sun had barely met the dawn sky as the party rode away from the city. Never before had such heroes been assembled. Never before had their been such a need.

A member of the first born race was required, to undertake a terrible quest, else the races of the world fall under the cruel yoke of the Devourer.

At the head rode Rald, human fighter non-pareil, first-born son of King Daeon. Those who followed were equally gifted. Callan, the now ancient half-elven wizard, first to graduate from the Cadem, and now the most knowledgeable about the Prophecy of Qillathe and its consequences. A half pace behind rode Olor, his human protege. Alric, dwarven fighter, master axeman and tribal chieftain, and Rinnah "thought-lover", scholarly gnome, rode side by side as though kin. And Vianne, elven priestess, the chosen of her race, the first-born who would perform the spell to stay the execution of the world they knew.

A jubilant city saw them go, their departure unmarred by the auguries of heretics.

As the sun set that day, the populace rejoiced, exalted by the power of being alive, and life continued as it had always done.

The heroes did not return, and their story faded to arcane marginalia.

One thousand years have passed. The portents have returned, more frequent and disturbing than before.

The prophecy remains unfulfilled.

'Are we not drawn onward, we few, drawn onward to new era?' is this year's Arcanacon D&D Major. Once inconceivable to have a convention without a 3 session D&D, the Major has waxed and waned with popularity of D&D. And now with the renewed popularity of the 3rd Edition, we are pleased to see its strong return.

Arcanacon maintains a perpetual trophy dedicated to the 3 session D&D Major tournament in any given year, which the award winners get to take home until the next convention. It has also often been the case that the trophied team is offered first chance to write the following year's D&D Major.
