Blakey's Halo
by Cameron Blackwood and
Narelle Price
An invitation
to small trade delegations from a low tech world
to the opening of an alien station.
2025, the year
of contact, seems so long ago.
Back then, contact, that one
event, united the whole planet. Everyone
stopped looking down and stared up instead. Suddenly the Earth was a
stepping stone to the unmeasured universe. We were not alone. What
would we learn? Was there anything we couldn't we do?
2026 was when Halo, the Earth/Alien station was completed and opened
for business. At least for the use of UN, governments and multinationals.
Naturally the rich pickings went to the most powerful nations and companies.
It was too good to last, wasn't it? Hope and wonder were replaced with
fear and dread. Why were the aliens here? What did they want with us?
How could Earth remain pure in the face of alien culture? How could
we compete with their technology?
The rallying cry of 'Earth First!' begins to ring out.
December 18, 2027. Halo's trade and commerce ring is about to be offically opened.
